Niciforo Nets Two; Pioneers Head to Semi-Finals

The C.W. Post Women’s soccer team is on their way to the third round of the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championships after defeating the American International College (AIC) Yellow Jackets on Sunday.

The lady Pioneers continued their on-field domination by shutting AIC out 2-0. During the first half the lady Pioneers put the pressure on AIC goalkeeper Kara Potts, but could not find the back of the net.

Men’s Soccer Fights ‘Til the End

Under the bright lights of the playoffs the C.W. Post Men’s Soccer team (7-8-2) went head-to-head against ECC rival Dowling College (10-1-5) that ended in a thrilling upset for the Pioneers.

The match was a nail-biter, as even two overtime periods was not enough to decide the outcome. Penalty kicks were needed to see who would advance to the ECC Championship. In the end, Dowling won the match with a 4-2 lead in penalty kicks.

Clutch Win for Men’s Soccer

Following a tough double-overtime loss to Nyack College, the C.W. Post Men’s Soccer team bounced back to beat Queens College 2-0 in a must-win game to clinch a spot for the ECC Championships.

Big Win, Tough Loss

Coming off a tough overtime loss to first place St. Thomas Aquinas College by a score of 2-1, the Pioneers came out focused and determined for their next games at Molloy College (3-11) and Mercy College (6-6-2).

Women’s Soccer Continues to Win

The C.W. Post Pioneer Women’s soccer team continued their winning streak by defeating Caldwell College and Mercy College this past week.  Prior to the two matches the Pioneers had beaten Wilmington University, Dowling College and Saint Thomas Aquinas College in impressive fashion.

On Monday, the Pioneers easily took care of Caldwell College in a non-conference match up. Midfielder Tove Eriksson opened up the scoring for Post at 21:47. Five minutes later freshman Alexa Niciforo would score her first of two goals she tallied in the game.
