Cross Country Captures Double Team Titles

This past Sunday, October 2nd, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Lehman College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Both the men’s and women’s teams earned a first place finish overall.

On the men’s side, Matthew O’Keefe took first place, overall, with a time of 27:49 on the eight kilometer course. Following close behind were teammates Ray Coyle, finishing in 28:06  in second place, Christian Altamura, securing third place with a time of 28:21, and Richard Schmitz, coming in fourth place with a time of 28:33. Rounding out the results were TJ Speicher in 9th place and Mike Fitzsimmons in 43rd out of a field of 142 men. The boys accumulated the meet’s lowest team point.

For the women’s team, Jenn McLaughlin finished for the squad in second place, with a time of 20:27 on a five-kilometer course. Her time puts her in the ninth position for the women’s 5k Van Cortlandt All-Time list. Crossing the line together were Caitlin Smith in eighth place, Shaylyn Stehl in ninth place, Sara McLaughlin in 10th place, setting her personal best with a time of 21:49, and Alexa Montegari in 11th. The team finished out with places 14th, 25th, and 32nd  to secure their first-place victory.

Both teams will look to continue their success next Sunday, October 9th, when they travel to Newark, New Jersey, to compete in the NJIT Highlander Invitational.
